Dating During The December-January Period

Dating During The December-January Period

Dating during the months of December and January can be fun since there are a wide range of wintertime activities to engage in.  But for some, this time of year may pose challenges when it comes to dating for different reasons.  Some claim people may take a break from dating during the month of December and January seems to be a popular month for breakups.  Whether or not this is true, it is interesting to review reasons behind such claims and get an idea of what couples can do to keep things interesting during the winter season.

Many people view December as one of the most festive and joyous times of the year with the holidays, gift giving and memorable celebrations.  So, why would rumors circulate about people being more likely to take a break from dating during this month? During the holiday period many people experience high levels of stress in either trying to please other people or being under pressure to try and make a good first impression if seeking to meet someone new at a holiday gathering.  Some find it a challenge to put themselves in a situation that allows them to meet someone knew.

Another challenge includes many feeling out of place at holiday gatherings if they are single. This is due to many gatherings, either at work with co-workers or home with family members, including people who are already in a committed relationship or married.  This may not be a bad thing because studies have shown than many who are married or in a long term relationship met their date at a party or celebration.  Some people look to avoid dating during this time of year when their friends decide to play matchmaker.  Basically, some look to avoid being paired up with someone they may or may share similar interests with to spare embarrassment or humiliation.

What about January? You would think many enjoy having that special someone to kiss when the clock strikes midnight on New Year’s Day.  But some experts think there is a trend with couples breaking up during this time of year more often than any other time of year.  Some feel that many couples experience a slow time during their relationship sometime during the fall season but decide to try and work things out because of the holidays.  But on the other hand, many see January as another opportunity to find a new special someone.  There are even online dating conventions that feature unique opportunities for singles to find a date in the month of January.

If you are interested in dating during this time of year it helps to be open to new experiences.  Check out places and events that are likely to have single individuals seeking to meet someone new.  If you are actively dating seek fun and enjoyable activities of interest for you and your date.  If you plan to give a gift to your date in December be considerate with your suggestion, yet you shouldn’t need a high budget to show your thoughtfulness.  This suggestion may open the possibility for a second date if this is your first.
